Rewriting the Self: Leona, Waccking, and the Courage to Begin Again

She once stood at the center of the global stage.
Now, she has chosen to step away from it.

Life is not a straight line. It is a series of conscious restarts.”

From Pioneer to Global Voice

Leona is widely recognized as the first figure of Waacking in China—
the first female dancer to bring this form onto the international stage.

From winning the national championship in 2006 to teaching and judging across Japan, Korea, and the United States, she did not just participate in a culture—she helped build it.

Building a Culture, Not Just a Career

Beyond performance, Leona became an architect of the street dance scene in China.

As the founder of China’s first Waacking group, Lady L, and the creator of Disco Party, she transformed dance from individual expression into a collective cultural movement.

She later served as a mentor for major entertainment productions, shaping generations of performers.

At the Center of the Spotlight

Leona has been everywhere the spotlight reaches—
international competitions, entertainment industries, celebrity stages.

She has judged, choreographed, mentored, and led.

For many, this would be the destination.

Turning Away

And yet, in late 2024, she made a decision that surprised everyone.

She stepped away from the stage—
and walked into a temple.

“What if success is not something you hold onto, but something you are willing to leave?”

A Different Path

From dancer to spiritual practitioner,
from global stages to a quieter space of reflection—

Leona began again.

As a co-founder of a cultural project rooted in spirituality, she turned inward, exploring feng shui, wealth, and the relationship between material and meaning.

Not the First Restart: But this is not the first time she has chosen to begin again.

Throughout her life, Leona has moved across roles—
dancer, creator, mentor, cultural leader.

Each transition is not a break, but a redefinition.

The Question Behind the Journey In this conversation, we ask:

Why does she keep choosing to restart?
What does Waacking truly mean to her?
And how does one continue to see the world, others, and oneself—again and again?
